bureau69 architects is an award-winning architecture studio based in Sicily, founded in 2003 by Max Strano, and established with the concept of ” virtual table“: a network of professionals based in different countries with a focus on contemporary architecture, crafted interiors, and furniture design.
The studio specialises in high-end residential and hospitality projects, where we bring an authentic and unique design for new buildings, renovations, and refurbishment projects. We also have considerable experience in renovation and reuse of historical buildings, and in urban design projects.Â

Massimiliano (Max) Strano graduated in Architecture and Planning (MArch) in Italy. He is a fully qualified architect registered in Italy (OAPPCCT) and in the U.K., a Chartered RIBA Architect and a Passivhaus designer.
Max has built his professional career based on a fundamental principle: cultural promiscuity brings diverse points of view, which certainly leads to a more advanced project. Therefore, over the years, he created relationships and work opportunities with other professionals from other cultures and backgrounds. After graduation, in 1999, he moved to Barcelona (Spain) and worked at Alfredo Arribas Arquitectos Asociados. In 2003, he started the architecture studio in Sicily, working mainly on some historical building restorations and small architectural projects. In 2006 he started a cultural exchange and collaboration with Jacob Goldemberg in Rio de Janeiro. During his stay in Catania, he participated in international architecture competitions involving other professionals and fueling his idea of an international network. In 2016 he obtained assignments for the development of some projects in Brazil and subsequently decided to move to England to broaden his knowledge. In London, he worked as a freelance both as an architect and as a project manager. In 2021 he was invited to work as a Project Architect with leadership at the KV Arquitectura studio in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
The diverse roles played by Max throughout his career gave him a comprehensive knowledge of various architectural and construction systems. Max is committed to high results and he is constantly updating in architecture and other areas of interest. He is interested in a fully sustainable approach to design, which he calls “responsible architecture”, and he supports the Passivhaus standard. Max speaks Italian, English, Spanish and Portuguese.

At bureau69 architects we love working with a holistic approach prioritising the design and considering feasibility at each phase. Since the early stages of the project, we work in close collaboration with planners, engineers, and suppliers, with the aim to deliver perfectly detailed projects, with the objective of complying with the highest standards in terms of quality (highest performance) and durability (low maintenance costs).Â
Steve is an architect with over thirty years of experience in Europe and Asia. He has led the design of numerous projects, many won in international design competitions, whilst holding senior design positions at leading architecture firms Farrells, Gensler and Aukett Swanke. An international body of work includes residential, commercial, educational and transport buildings as well as urban masterplans. Steve has worked in UK and Asia with completed projects in UK, Hong Kong, Russia and Turkey.
Paul Tierney has over 15 years experience specialising in private housing, residential developments and educational work. He has designed some of West London’s most creative homes, and was the project architect on Notting Hill Prep Westway – the first school ever to be built under a motorway. Paul combines simple, elegant design with strong technical know-how. He is an expert in contract, planning and project-management. Paul is a member of the RIBA and ARB, and delighted to be an Architecture Ambassador for the RIBA National Schools Programme.
Safbuild Ltd is a distributor in the UK for high-end bespoke made-in-Italy products for fit-out (bespoke joinery, marble and natural stones, ceramic tiles, glass doors, sanitary ware, etc.), extremely innovative single room mechanical ventilation systems with heat recovery and many other outstanding products for indoor air quality and energy saving. Safbuild is based in London and trades in all the UK. The added value is our project management capability, the full customer assistance and the expertise in managing new projects and new challenges. All the materials are checked by us as soon as they are delivered on site in order to verify their full integrity and compliance.

She practices with particular attention to eco-sustainability, with a strong belief in land recovery in urban areas and in the containment of overbuilding in agricultural areas.
